Carl’s new world...
Carl Higgins is 24, and up until August had been unemployed, and largely dependant on alcohol to get through the boredom of each day. We found Carl in the job centre, where we were warned that he might be a bit of a ‘trouble maker’.
Despite this, we decided to give him a go - and are so pleased that we did, because Carl has really managed to turn his life around over the last few months.
During his time at SPEAR he showed a real desire to make changes, and within the first week spontaneously made a commitment to give up alcohol - a promise he amazingly managed to stick to for the duration of the course and has continued for the year since.
Carl explained that the positive environment at SPEAR really motivated him to take control of his life for the first time. Within two weeks of finishing, Carl had achieved his goal of finding work within the catering industry. He is now working part time as a kitchen hand and working towards his qualification in order to fulfill his dream of becoming a chef.
Carl continues to visit us from time to time. We are so proud of the changes he has made and look forward to watching his future unfold.
